The History of Jaybird Street |

As I watched the TV replays of the tragedy of September
11, 2001, I was particularly touched by the bravery of the New York
City Firemen, as they were continually praised for putting their lives
on the line for their fellow men and women and for this wonderful
country we live in.
My father was a Baltimore City Fireman, a pump operator for Engine
Company 21. He began his career with the fire department as soon
as he graduated from high school. Shortly after he began, he was
promoted to pump operator-at that time, the youngest member of the
department to have earned this title. Although my dad did not
participate in the September 11th event, I was always proud of the
service and protection, which he provided to the men, women and
children that were placed under his care. My dad passed away on
January 7, 1999, at the age of 47. I miss him very much and
because of what he meant to me, I have named my business in honor of
him. Jaybird was my dad's nickname, given to him by a group of
friends he had known since he was a child.
I know my dad would have been proud of me because I have followed my
dream.
